Los Alamos High School is located on the Pajarito Plateau in the Jemez Mountains of Northern New Mexico, 35 miles from the state capital of Santa Fe. LAHS is proudly accredited by Cognia and meets all requirements and standards established by the State of New Mexico.
LAHS has a full and part-time staff of 135, including three staff with doctoral degrees, 57 with master's degrees and 11 National Board Certified teachers. Of the 135 employees, 59 have been at the high school for more than five years. Seventy-five teachers have taught for five years or longer.
Total enrollment is approximately 1200 students in grades 9 through 12. The Los Alamos High School curriculum is diversified, allowing students to develop an individualized rigorous four-year plan. We offer the following 22 Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Biology, Calculus AB & BC, Chemistry, Computer Science, English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, Environmental Science, European History, Studio Art, French, Spanish, German, and Latin Language & Culture, Human Geography, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Physics, Psychology, Statistics, US Government & Politics, and US History. LAHS Honors courses are offered in Literature 10, German, Spanish, French and Latin Language & Culture, Physics, Chemistry, Human Anatomy-and-Physiology and Biology.
Los Alamos High School, through partnerships with the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico College, offers over 50 dual enrollment courses. This year over 450 students are enrolled in these courses.
Students also participate in NJROTC, educational work-study, automotive programs, marketing and a variety of technology courses. Students who desire a different approach to education can apply to the School of Choice or the LA Early College & Career Academy programs. Work- related courses for credit include Student Assistant, Student Intern, and Peer Tutor which involve work on campus; MAPS (Mentorship, Apprenticeship, Partnership, Service), which offers credit for volunteer work in the community, and Job XP, which employs students throughout the community. Comprehensive special education programs are available at all levels including work-study and vocational training.
